About

This six-week Yoga Therapy Course for Healthy Sleep has been developed to support people suffering from common sleep problems, also known as insomnia. These can include difficulty getting to sleep, waking during the night, waking early, or just having poor-quality sleep.

Sleep difficulties can be triggered by a range of factors, including physical or mental health problems, life circumstances, or lifestyle.

Symptoms often include tiredness, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating and irritability, and can have a significant impact on day-to-day life. Poor sleep also often leads to worry and anxiety about the sleeplessness itself, which can exacerbate the problem.

However, these symptoms can often be reduced, or even eliminated, with some basic lifestyle changes and the use of simple practices such as mindful movement, breathing techniques and relaxation.

This course supports participants to explore the therapeutic benefits of yoga in developing healthy sleep patterns.

Treatment

Sessions will include:

  • Practical information on how the principles of yoga and āyurveda can be used to support healthy sleep
  • Carefully considered, therapeutic yoga practices of simple physical postures (āsana), breathing techniques (prāṇāyāma), and guided relaxation, specifically designed to promote healthy sleep
  • Guidance on simple home practices to use between sessions

Participants may identify a positive change in their physical, mental, emotional and/or energetic state at the end of each session. This can include a reduction in physical aches and pains, improved mental clarity, a sense of calmness and peace, or a general feeling of wellbeing and relaxation.

Over the duration of the course, participants will learn techniques that can easily be incorporated into everyday life.

Through regular practice, these techniques can promote multi-dimensional health and healing – reducing symptoms and supporting healthy patterns of sleep for life.
