Dr David Lo
Dr David Lo is a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Leicester Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Leicester.
After completing his schooling in Norfolk, David attended medical school in Leicester, obtaining his medical degree in 2006. He is fully trained in all aspects of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, having completed a GMC (General Medical Council) accredited higher specialist training programme throughout the East Midlands. Before being appointed as a Consultant in 2018, David also completed a Master’s degree in Leadership (with distinction), and a research doctorate (MD) in children’s asthma and lung function testing. He is currently working towards his second Master’s degree in epidemiology.
David is active in research and was awarded a prestigious National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Advanced fellowship in 2022, providing funding for a programme of research into wheezing and asthma in preschool children.
His clinical and research interests are in the treatment of childhood respiratory diseases, with a focus on difficult asthma and preschool wheezing. In his clinical practice, he also manages children with cough, breathlessness, recurrent chest infections, and chronic lung diseases including bronchiectasis, hayfever, rhinitis, congenital lung malformations, and airway abnormalities amongst other complex lung diseases. David is committed to delivering high-quality, holistic, patient-centred and evidence-based care for all his patients.
David holds, or has recently held, positions on many national and international committees and working groups, including the European Children’s Asthma Diagnosis taskforce, and the British Thoracic Society Asthma Guidelines Committee. He is an executive member of the East Midlands Paediatric Respiratory Society, the Midlands Asthma and Allergy Research Association, and is the current Paediatric Epidemiology group secretary for the European Respiratory Society.
In his free time, David enjoys spending time with his young family, and friends, good food, and running.
