Weight loss injections typically refer to medications that are administered via injection. These drugs work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar, helping people reduce food intake and lose weight.
These injections work by affecting the brain's appetite control center, helping you feel full for longer periods, reducing hunger, and in some cases, slowing down digestion. This leads to reduced calorie intake and, over time, weight loss.
Weight loss injections like Ozempic or Mounjaro are approved and considered safe when used under medical supervision. However, they can have side effects like nausea, vomiting, or digestive issues, and may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions.
Clinical studies show that people using injections, combined with a healthy diet and exercise, can lose an average of 10-15% of their body weight over several months to a year.
These injections are typically prescribed for people with a BMI over 30 (obese) or those with a BMI over 27 who have weight-related conditions like type 2 diabetes or hypertension. A healthcare provider will assess if it is appropriate for you.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain. More serious side effects, like gallbladder issues or pancreatitis, can occur but are rare.
The dosing schedule depends on the specific medication. The Health Suite will give you a clear schedule.
Although weight loss injections can reduce hunger, they are most effective when combined with lifestyle changes like a healthy diet and regular exercise. Alone, they may not deliver optimal results.
Weight loss injections can lead to long-term results, but maintenance often requires continuing the medication. If the injections are stopped without other weight control strategies, some weight regain can occur.
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and plan. Some plans may cover these medications if they are medically necessary, especially if you have obesity-related health conditions like diabetes or hypertension. It’s best to check with your insurance company.
