Hayfever Treatment

At The Health Suite, we offer a range of treatments to help you through the hayfever season. We’ve got you covered so you can enjoy the summer

Mask Group 40

Hayfever, or allergic rhinitis, occurs when your body’s immune system overreacts to elements in the environment such as pollen.

People can react to a multitude of grass or tree pollens, which can be released at different times of the year and therefore can make the ‘hayfever season’ last for months.

Hayfever symptoms can lead to reduced concentration, reduced alertness and fatigue, affecting work and school performance.

Hayfever treatment options at The Health Suite include:

These include antihistamines, nasal sprays, and eye drops.

If you have already tried several over-the-counter antihistamines, you may benefit from higher-dose fexofenadine medication. This can be prescribed during a consultation with one of our doctors.

Essential oils

A combination of high-quality essential oils can be very effective in reducing and preventing the symptoms of hay fever.

The Seasonal Support blend can be purchased in our online shop or from our clinic. Essential oils are a safe and natural way to help your hayfever with no side effects and can be used by adults and children.

Hayfever injection

A proportion of hayfever sufferers will not get suitable or adequate improvement of their symptoms with antihistamines, nasal sprays or eye drops.

For these individuals, a Kenalog injection may be considered after consultation with a doctor.

Each Kenalog injection contains triamcinolone acetonide 40mg/1ml as the active ingredient, belonging to a group of medications called corticosteroids.

Steroids reduce the body’s immune system response, which reduces inflammation and allergy symptoms. They do not cure hayfever but control the immune system enough to remove the allergic symptoms.

During your consultation with the doctor, they will discuss the indications, benefits and side effects of the injection prior to any administration. These injections are suitable for adults only.

Please note you should not have a Kenalog injection if you are within three weeks of a COVID vaccination as it may reduce your response to the vaccination.

Non-medical options

These include:

  • Staying indoors and limiting bare skin to reduce pollen exposure – not only for eyes and mouth but also for skin all over the body
  • Applying Vaseline to the nostrils
  • Frequent showers to wash off pollen
  • Keeping windows closed, especially at night

Allergy testing

If you want to identify your exact allergy, we are able to offer different allergy tests to help you manage your allergies.

Tests can be done against a range of pollens and other inhalants.
