Dr. Dhinesh Baskaran
Dr. Dhinesh Baskaran is a children’s brain, nerve and muscle specialist (Paediatric Neurologist) at the University Hospitals of Leicester. He completed his medical training in South India before moving to the UK for further specialist training.
He trained in paediatric neurology at the internationally renowned Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, where he gained advanced experience in children’s epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders and other complex neurological conditions. Dr. Baskaran has been a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist in Leicester since 2022.
He looks after children with a wide range of conditions, including:
- Headaches and migraines
- Epilepsy and seizures
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Movement disorders, including cerebral palsy, dystonia, and spasticity
- Developmental delay and complex neurological conditions
- Children’s Stroke and Neurovascular Disorders
- Neurogenetic and Neurometabolic disorders
- Neuroinflammatory disorders (optic neuritis, ADEM and multiple sclerosis)
He leads the children’s Neuromuscular service in Leicester and also runs specialist MDT clinics for complex epilepsy and movement disorders. Alongside his clinical work, he teaches doctors and medical students and contributes to research to improve care for children with neurological conditions.
Dr. Baskaran is a member of the British Paediatric Neurology Association and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Families often describe him as approachable, caring, and committed to giving children the best possible care. He speaks well in English, Tamil and Telugu.
