Professor John Mayberry

Professor Mayberry has over 30 years of experience in gastroenterology. His primary areas of interest include peptic ulcer disease, achalasia, oesophageal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and pancreatic disease. He provides care across all areas of gastroenterology.

His contributions to the study of gastrointestinal diseases are internationally recognised, with his publications cited more than 21,000 times. He has collaborated with centres in the Netherlands and Spain, and his achievements were further acknowledged through his election as a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

In addition to his medical career, Professor Mayberry is a qualified criminal barrister, having been called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn.

Special Interests
Professor Mayberry has chaired NICE committees on the management of Crohn’s disease and served on the Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee for the MHRA. He maintains a long-standing interest in complementary and alternative treatments for gastrointestinal diseases and supports their integration into patient care where appropriate.

Other Interests
An avid gardener, Professor Mayberry has also cared for chickens and quail in recent years. In the evenings, he enjoys spending time with his wife and reading history.
