Media Coverage: GP Reveals Common Kitchen Item She Has Removed Over Cancer Risk Concerns

A GP has sparked discussion after revealing she removed a common household kitchen item from her home due to potential links with long-term health risks like Cancer.

Dr Asiya Maula, GP and functional medicine specialist at The Health Suite Leicester, says growing evidence around environmental exposures is prompting many clinicians to reconsider everyday products used in food preparation and storage.

We are increasingly understanding that long-term, low-level exposure to certain chemicals can add up over time. It’s not about panic or removing everything from your home, but about reducing unnecessary risk where possible.”

She adds that concerns often focus on materials that may release or contain compounds associated with hormonal disruption or inflammation when used repeatedly over many years.

Dr Maula stresses that lifestyle context is important:

Risk is cumulative. Diet, stress, sleep, and environmental exposures all interact. Small, consistent changes can support long-term health.”

Experts emphasise that while such steps may support overall wellbeing, they should not replace medical guidance or routine health screening.
