Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at The Health Suite
What to Expect During Your First Appointment
Your first session will typically involve a clinical assessment to understand the young person’s history, current difficulties, and what they and their family are hoping to achieve through therapy. Dr Taylor will work collaboratively with the young person, their parents or carers, and, where appropriate, other professionals involved in their care.
Following the assessment, a personalised therapeutic plan will be developed, which may include individual sessions, parent sessions, or a combination of both.
How Long Does Therapy Take?
The length of therapy depends on the nature and complexity of the presenting difficulties. Dr Taylor offers:
- Brief work — focused, time-limited support for specific concerns
- Short-term psychotherapy — a set number of sessions agreed at the outset
- Longer-term psychotherapy — for more complex or longstanding difficulties
- Intensive psychotherapy — for young people requiring more frequent contact
A recommended approach will be discussed and agreed following the initial assessment.

Anxiety in children and young people may present as worry, withdrawal, or physical symptoms. Psychotherapy helps explore underlying causes and supports emotional regulation and confidence.
Is your child refusing school or struggling to attend?
School refusal can be linked to anxiety, social difficulties, or emotional distress. Assessment and therapy help understand the root causes and support gradual re-engagement with education.
