A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal check-up for women after giving birth, designed to assess the recovery of the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and overall posture. It helps address issues like diastasis recti (abdominal separation), pelvic pain, and incontinence.
It’s recommended to book a Mummy MOT 6-8 weeks after giving birth. However, women can benefit from this assessment months or even years after delivery, especially if they have ongoing issues like back pain or incontinence.
A Mummy MOT involves a detailed assessment of your pelvic floor muscles, abdominal muscles, and posture. The practitioner may also ask about your childbirth experience, any symptoms you're experiencing, and your daily activities to develop a tailored treatment plan.
Every woman who has given birth, whether vaginally or via C-section, can benefit from a Mummy MOT. It is especially useful for those experiencing pelvic floor weakness, lower back pain, abdominal separation, or difficulty returning to exercise post-pregnancy.
This depends on your health insurance provider. Some plans may cover the Mummy MOT if it’s categorized under women’s health physiotherapy or postpartum care. It's advisable to check with your provider for specific coverage details.
Absolutely! The Mummy MOT® is for all women who have given birth and are still suffering in some way. The sooner you make an appointment, the sooner your symptoms and issues will be alleviated. But it’s never too late to make an appointment.
For mummies who have given birth naturally, we advise you to wait at least 6 weeks before you come in for your Mummy MOT check. This is extended to 8 weeks if you have had a C-section
The Mummy MOT® can include an internal pelvic floor exam. This will always be discussed, and consent will be asked for before any examination takes place. A chaperone will be present if you wish to opt for an internal exam.
The initial consultation can take up to an hour. It may take longer, depending on your situation and symptoms. Follow-up times will be discussed with you.
If your diagnosis following the Mummy MOT assessment is beyond the remit of our mummy MOT practitioner, she will have an in-depth conversation with options available for you. At The Health Suite, we are a multidisciplinary integrative team with over 40 practitioners, including consultant radiologists for diagnostic scanning, consultant gynaecologists, pilates instructors and personal trainers, to name a few.
