Among participants who took the medication as prescribed throughout, average weight loss was approximately 16.6%. Results vary between individuals, and the medication works alongside dietary and activity change rather than instead of it.

Trial data suggests the 25 mg tablet produces weight loss broadly comparable to the standard 2.4 mg weekly injection. The higher-dose 7.2 mg injection produces greater average weight loss than either. Caution and specialist input are needed with type 2 diabetes on insulin or sulfonylureas, diabetic retinopathy, gastroparesis, severe heart failure, and before surgery under general anaesthetic. Effective contraception is required throughout treatment.

The licence covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, prediabetes, or obstructive sleep apnoea. You also need to be over 18 and free of conditions or medications that would make treatment unsafe. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
